Boston Red Sox pitcher Payton Tolle is using his growing MLB platform to point others to Jesus, saying his faith gives him joy and shapes the attitude he brings to the field every day. Tolle’s faith became especially important during college, when his mother, Jina, died from cancer. Through that difficult season, he said trusting God gave him hope and strengthened his desire to use baseball for something bigger than himself. “I feel like I have a unique opportunity to show others the love of Jesus with the platform He has blessed me with,” he said. That faith is visible every time he takes the mound. Tolle has Matthew 5:16 stitched on his glove, a verse calling believers to let their light shine before others so that God may be glorified. Now enjoying an impressive rookie season with Boston, Tolle says finding time to talk with God continues to help him both on and off the field: “Always trusting God and knowing He has a plan has put me in the best spots for me.”
